Video 02’s cinematography makes small things speak. A close-up of a rivet being peened becomes an exemplum: attention given to a single point can secure an entire structure. Intertitles appear sparingly, factual and crisp — dates, locations, names — letting the viewer map history without being led by the nose. Where the film chooses to linger, it does so on faces and hands: the true cartographers of labor.
