I should also check if there are any official patches or firmware updates that support higher resolutions. The PS3's last official update (3.55 and 4.80) still maintained the original 1280x720 max resolution. Some later models used a PS3 Super Slim with support for HDMI 1.4a, which allows 4K upscaling if the TV supports it via HDMI 1.4, but not true 4K output.
